Naomi Dewey’s Successful Seminar

Naomi Dewey Buynak Fauver Archbald & SprayNaomi Dewey recently had a successful seminar on “The Risks (and Benefits) of Having Help in the Home: New Laws on Caregivers, Housekeepers, & Domestic Staff” on July 30, 2013 at our office on 820 State Street. The seminar had over 20 attendees who were either directly affected by the new legal updates or were close with people who would be affected.

Addressing the legal needs of those that use caregivers, Ms. Dewey expressed deep concern about pending legislation, AB241. Ms. Dewey notes that “Unrealistic legislation like the so-called ‘Domestic Bill of Rights’ means that those rely on nannies or companions for aging relatives would be required to have additional help in place to ensure uninterrupted meal breaks and rest periods, along with eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.” Pointing out that for young children and seniors with health issues, “work doesn’t happen on a 9 to 5 schedule,” Ms. Dewey urged attendees to be cautious of the new law and the increased responsibilities it would place on employers.

Ms. Dewey specializes in client-focused general counsel and litigation services with a focus on employment law. She may be reached directly at ndewey@bfaslaw.com to discuss your legal needs.
